Belfast software firm, WorkPal, partners with Action Cancer to encourage men to avail of the charity’s prevention and support services
WorkPal, a Belfast headquartered software company that develops and implements a powerful workforce management tool into businesses around the world, has partnered up with Northern Ireland’s leading, local cancer charity Action Cancer to support its new men’s health campaign, Service Your Assets.
The year-long campaign seeks to get men talking about their physical and mental health and to encourage them to avail themselves of the charity’s cancer prevention and support services.
WorkPal has set up a Challenge Fund for the campaign to the value of £7,500. This means that for every £1 raised by other companies and individuals, WorkPal pledges to match fund this. The total of £15,000 will enable Action Cancer to deliver 300 health checks to men throughout the year.
The Service Your Assets campaign kicks off in the lead up to and during Men’s Health Week (14th-20th June) and encourages men to book an MOT health check with Action Cancer.
The health check incorporates a number of assessments including blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and body composition analysis, as well as lifestyle advice and information on common cancers.
The checks do not diagnose cancer but aim to increase awareness of current health and the importance of cancer prevention and early detection.
WorkPal will also feature in the campaign’s outdoor and radio advertising as well as its PR and social media activity to prompt men to take up the ‘Service Your Assets’ challenge.
Ian Megahey, Sales Director at WorkPal, said: “We are delighted to partner with Action Cancer. At WorkPal we are focused on communication, creating the best solutions for communicating and I can think of no better way to reach out to the public by communicating what is a very important message to the men of Northern Ireland.
“I recently had my own health check at Action Cancer and would highly recommend it to other guys. It’s an opportunity to take stock of your health as we come out of lockdown and there is no better place to start than getting a full MOT. Your health is your most important asset, get it serviced!”
Tanya Carson, Health Promotion Officer at Action Cancer, added: “In Northern Ireland, 13 men are diagnosed with cancer every day. Men are more likely to sit on their symptoms before contacting their GP. They are diagnosed at a later stage than women and subsequently more likely to die from cancer than women.
“Our Service Your Assets campaign encourages men to be proactive about their health, to come for a health check and be educated on what cancer signs and symptoms to look out for. We are grateful to have WorkPal’s support, enabling us to spread our men’s health message far and wide.”
MOT health checks are available to men aged 16+ at Action Cancer House in Belfast and onboard the charity’s Big Bus. To book an appointment visit www.actioncancer.org/appointments or call 028 9080 3344.
WorkPal staff have committed to raising additional funds for the charity throughout the year via a range of fundraising activities. Activity planned so far with support from their partners and clients includes a raffle, bake sale and a three-peak challenge in the Mournes!
